My favourite things: Bumper Edition!

Well I’m rather late in posting this week but that’s partly due to one of this week’s favourite things…

Emiliahearts enjoying the snow!
Emiliahearts enjoying the snow!

Yes snow has fallen across the UK today. It’s not too deep in Nottingham thankfully but it has still meant that travel routes and plans are being cancelled and changed all over. I hope everyone is keeping safe and warm.

We just went for a walk to the fish and chip shop which was lovely and peaceful until I fell over in slow motion!

Anyway without further ado here’s the rest of my favourite things this week. I’m sorry there’s a lot this week!

Lovely friends and beautiful pictures

The best thing this week has been receiving this beautiful picture of my engagement ring that our wonderful friend Lucy from Lucy Stendall Photography took for us as a present. It always makes me smile. Thanks Lucy!

You can see more of Lucy’s amazing wedding photography on her blog. I recommend you do!

Graphic novels

Needing some retail therapy after sobbing through Les Miserables I popped into Nottingham’s brilliant comic shop Page 45 where I couldn’t resist picking up the first volume of the Scott Pilgrim colour editions. I love it. Look how amazing Ramona and Scott look!

Aww look at Scott and Ramona in colour. Aren't they pretty?

I also picked up Saga recommended by my friend Tara – really looking forward to reading it.

Les Miserables

OK I know I posted about this earlier this week but I am now officially addicted to listening to the soundtrack. I dread to think how many times I’ve listened to Anne Hathaway’s I Dreamed A Dream. Just brilliant stuff.

You Had Me at Hello by Mhairi McFarlane

This week I have been mostly talking about and recommending You Had Me At Hello – a brilliant debut novel from Nottingham-based writer Mhairi McFarlane.

It gets a big thumbs up from me – well written, really laugh out loud funny and I love that the characters feel really real.

Gadgets galore!

The Nintendo Wii U - ooooooh!
The Nintendo Wii U – ooooooh!

This has been a good week for electronics in the emiliahearts household as I got a brand new phone – the BlackBerry 9900 – and a Wii U.

I had an iPhone before which I loved but sadly I was finding it really hard to summon up enthusiasm to write any messages on it due to the touchscreen so hello physical qwerty keyboard on the BlackBerry! The past few days I’ve been texting and tweeting like a demon!

Most exciting of all though is the Wii U I got free with it! The brand new Nintendo console, the Wii U’s main selling point is the GamePad – a tablet like device that you can use to interact with games in new ways or to play on when someone else is using the TV. I have to say it’s really good.

We’re currently playing Nintendo Land – a series of mini games based on Nintendo franchises. My favourites are the Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion games which use the GamePad in a really clever way – allowing one person to see elements of the game (e.g. maps etc) that the other players can’t see. It’s really fun. I’ll blog about this in more detail another time.

I’ve also been dancing to Call Me Maybe and What Makes You Beautiful on Just Dance 4. ’nuff said.

Any Other Woman book swap

This week I signed up for the book swap over at the brilliant blog Any Other Woman – lots of people from all over the world have signed up to send each other a book. First you have to fill out a questionnaire about your favourite books – it’s going to be brilliant!

Dr Buckles comes to Nottingham

As a massive fan of Adam and Joe (TV show and podcast), imagine my excitement when I received an email to say that Dr Buckles himself would be bringing his popular BUG show to Broadway Cinema in Nottingham!

I can’t wait. In the meantime – enjoy Dr Buckles and Cornballs rendition of Dr Sexy (sorry it’s the best video I could find on YouTube!)…
